Aucklanders brave rain to back Gazans braving missiles

18 Nov

Braving pouring rain, 150 Aucklanders set off yesterday for the US Consulate to support people in Gaza braving a high-tech blitz by Israel’s military machine.

At the US Consulate, the Palestinian flag was run up the US flagpole. Dozens of shoes were thrown at the diplomatic office in a traditional Arab show of disgust at Washington’s support for Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.

Maia Fowler and Tigilau Ness sing “We are all Palestinians”, a song of solidarity penned by Roger Fowler of Kia Ora Gaza, who on late Thursday exited Gaza amid Israeli bomb blasts after a two week fact finding mission. A damp John Minto, the protest organiser, croaks along with the chorus.
