Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike have released letters declaring that they won’t give up their campaign although they’re being subjected to assault and battery by Israeli guards on a daily basis. The striking inmates say hunger has become a weapon for them to fight for their freedom. The Palestinian prisoners are being held behind bars without charge or trial. More than 120 Palestinian inmates began an open-ended strike on April 24 but later hundreds of other prisoners joined them in solidarity. The United Nations has expressed concern about the deteriorating health of scores of striking prisoners. Prisoners’ families have called for urgent international support.
