Background bio for Marama Davidson:
Marama is an environmentalist and human rights advocate. She is a member of the New Zealand Parliament as a representative of the Green Party, and spokesperson for Human Rights. She worked for the Human Rights Commission from 2003 to 2012. She has worked part-time for Breastfeeding New Zealand, she was a ‘Think Tank Member’ for the Owen Glenn Inquiry on Child Abuse and Domestic Violence, and founding member of Te Wharepora Hou Māori Women’s Collective.
Marama was selected to represent NZ on the international Women’s Boat to Gaza, to challenge Israel’s illegal & inhumane blockade of the Gaza Strip, and express friendship and solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people. Kia Ora Gaza facilitated her participation and set up an appeal to support this peaceful mission.
QUOTE: “I am participating in the Women’s Boats to Gaza flotilla to highlight the crucial role of women in keeping their communities afloat, particularly in post-conflict situations. As an indigenous woman myself, I want to stand alongside the women of Gaza and to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis there.”
NOTE: Kia Ora Gaza and the Green Party have both previously sent two letters each to the NZ Government requesting the government demand that Israel allows the Women’s Boat to Gaza safe and unhindered passage. These letters remain unanswered. On 26 September, the House passed a motion tabled by fellow Green MP Catherine Delahunty, supporting the Women’s Boat to Gaza and MP Marama Davidson’s participation.
