Boycott Israel: John Minto to speak in Nelson on Saturday

27 Sep

John Minto, (centre in photo) well known for his courage and political activism during the Springbok Tour of New Zealand in 1981, will be in Nelson to speak about the international Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on this Saturday 6 October.

You are welcome to join a chat over a Palestinian meal at 6:30pm, or later at 7.30pm to hear John speak about BDS. Entry is free (donations welcome), but the meal will be $15 or $10 for students and unemployed. Please RSVP with numbers if you would like a meal – go to our FaceBook event page:  Menu to be announced in the next week!

BDS is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.

Israel is occupying and colonising Palestinian land, discriminating against Palestinian citizens of Israel and denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes. Inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, the BDS call urges action to pressure Israel to comply with international law.

BDS is now a vibrant global movement made up of unions, academic associations, churches and grassroots movements across the world. Eleven years since its launch, BDS is having a major impact and is effectively challenging international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.
