Activist and academic Dr Sai Englert explains why Anti-Zionism is entirely different from Anti-Semitism, and how conflating them is a ‘deeply problematic approach.’

Dr Sai Englert is a Visiting Lecturer in Politics & IR at New College of the Humanities. He received a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a Masters with Merit from Sussex University. He then completed his PhD at SOAS, London. He has subsequently given various lectures at SOAS, NCH and other universities.

Englert explains that “Anti-Zionists demand all the inhabitants of historic Palestine – Jews, Christians and Muslims, Palestinians and non-Palestinians are given equal rights whatever their race, religion or ethnicity – something which both the Israeli State and the Zionist movement continue to refuse.”

All forms of racism and discrimination are the antithesis of justice, peace and freedom. Kia Ora Gaza and the NZ Palestine Solidarity Network will not tolerate any act or discourse which adopts or promotes, among others: racism, anti-Arab racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, sexism, xenophobia, or homophobia.

“Anti-Semitism is a crime – Anti-Zionism is a duty.”
