Mānawatia-a-Matariki whānau!  We’re emailing with some upcoming events and actions in the Wellington-region.

Exhibition – Painting as Prayer: Solidarity Art Drop-in – this Saturday, 22 June
Enter the gallery and pick up the paint brush. We welcome you to take a moment to pause, reflect and process all that you have witnessed of the genocide in Gaza.  Put paint to paper and create an image of your prayer, hope and solidarity for a Free Palestine.

Everyone is an artist, everyone is welcome.

We’re looking for volunteers to help give out leaflets at the Justice for Palestine stall at Matariki on Moana Street Festival, Otaki Beach on Friday 28 June 10-4 pm

Film screenings

Porirua screening – Imprisoning a Generation – 5 July

Please join us to come together to listen and learn through the eyes and experiences of the children of Palestine. This screening of Imprisoning a Generation will be followed by a facilitated discussion with community members with lived experience of Israeli occupation. 

We ask everyone to bring their curiosity, and their care, to this conversation.

Because of the themes in this film and the testimonies of the children, this is not a film suitable for younger audiences.

Pōneke screening – Where Olive Trees Weep – 11 July

Justice for Palestine is hosting a screening of the Palestinian film “Where Olive Trees Weep”, a film that offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.

Proceeds from the tickets, and donations will go to UNRWA.

Date: Thurs, 11 July 2024

Time: 6-8 pm (6:30 pm screening)

Location: Newtown Community Centre – Te Whare Hapori o Ngā Puna Waiora, Colombo Street &, Rintoul Street, Newtown, Wellington
